Consensus vs Leadership Party?

Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 07:00:37 PM PDT

In my view, there is no crowd like this Administration that is more deserving of being shot in the pubic square. Nonetheless indiscriminate fire without regard to collateral casualties is more of the same.
Chris Matthews asked a line of questioning right at the top of Hardball  that I paraphrase:

Why don't we just get out of Iraq now? In Viet Nam we talked about it for ten years and spent another 37,000 more American lives... and we still left  the country in chaos. We know we are going to go. Why not now?? Why wait??
.

Wow!

The difference I see with this crowd and Watergate is similar to John Dean's advise given to Nixon and recounted in congressional testimony. He warned of a "Cancer growing on the Presidency."

Given the absolute hegemony they sought, they are a Cancer growing on Democracy itself.

I'm not for getting any more of our troops - in Iraq or politically at home - picked off by sniper fire or incessant explosive devises improvised as we go along. I understand the poitical dynamics, I do. I am also concerned about an ultimate consignment of the Democrats as "consensus builders" rather than a "leadership" party. This cycle must be broken. How in the Congress? Who as President? Our ultimate challenge.
