Social and Economic Justice are at the core of my political principles, and I believe, the bedrock values of Democracy. I think Politics "from the ground up" is the basis of democratic legitimacy, but, like others,  have bemoaned the lack of Leadership within the Democratic Party over the years. I am not naive. I "get it" in terms of that balancing act that occurs in politics when choosing between countervailing forces and practical paths in  line with your Principles. What once might seem a wide path can narrow to  tightrope indeed. None of this is new. People have grappled with these issues in struggling to form or maintain democratic societies in all ages on all Continents.

And I know the Party line...There are a great many issues to be addressed in achieving the Social and Economic Justice we all seek. The achievement of such aims will surely create much debate and regardless of holding the White House, require a working majority on the Supreme Court and larger majorities on the Hill...It's true, too.

Miss Laura had a front page piece yesterday entitled, SEIU: The Fight Goes Past the Election. I am aware of the ongoing rivalry between SEIU and the California Nurses Association (CNA) in organizing Hospitals and Health Systems as well as strategic and tactical political positions put forth by both unions.

Though not an SEIU member, I know of SEIU's activism in Healthcare. I see Unions in Healthcare as a critical, counterveiling weight against an exploitive, moneymongering Healthcare system that has taken hold in the U.S. I thought I'd be in for a good, thought provoking read on the SEIU I know from experience shared with SEIU members I had seen throught the years during GOTV and social justice campaigns.Of course, despite being busy volunteering for Barack wherever possible, I do remember there was that recent beef I had heard and read about briefly regarding CNA and Ralph Nader charging SEIU and its President, Andy Stern with "thuggery" violence and intimidation following an SEIU protest of CNA at a Labor Notes meeting in Dearborn, MI...
There's going to be a winner and loser in my book regarding this.

And surely you hear the clamor from many to step right in...We Dems are all so freaked about John Kerry's lack of rapid response to '04 Swiftboat attacks that it would now have some of us run off as Chicken Little, while others reach for the cudgel.

We Democrats have bemoaned a history of wooden candidates, or the appearance of such.

Yet This candidate and these times ARE different, and yes, The American Bullshit Meter is more finely tuned and will work just fine if one speaks directly into it.

Obama needs to pounce on the politics of distraction, division and personal destruction, reminding the electorate that, in fact , WE KNOW better than this, We FEEL it while struggling to keep up.
It is the very basis of Barack's campaign. Anyone think that a protracted discussion of religion will satisfy his critics? Or the Media? Or serve Obama????  Does anyone seriously believe Obama would be accepted by the John Hagees of the world??? What to DO, Then? What to SAY?

The Clinton Campaign has proposed Admitting 63 New States in to the Union. By March 4. Details of  the "New Plan" were sketchy as conflicting reports emerged from  the Clinton campaign during a raucous Sunday News Conference broadcast from Wellesley College. The New Clinton Solution would have Wellesley achieve at least one Statehood for their Alumni Association. Other proposed States include HowardWolfsonia, the Commonwealth of Lanny, and Haroldickesaware. Clinton Staff immediately declared that all concievable States should be allowed to vote Prior to determining the Democratic Nomination..

Passing by the camera pool, Mandy Grunwald could be seen like a boa constrictor with legs atop the shoulders of a blue faced man she was choking while pummeling him with the heel ends of her shoes. The gentleman was clearly in distress yet Ms. Grunwald just Buddy Rich-ed the shit out of him. One senior Clinton aide was kind enough to interupt his call from a pay phone nearby to confirm the pending victim as Mark Penn.. Rebuffing thanks for the info, The Clinton Staffer said "No biggie, I'm  on hold anyways..Hey - you know if Obama's hiring?" Penn appeared to rally briefly. The Pummeling Ms. Grunwald missed neither a beat or a screech before they tumbled off-stage...

A FIRE, literally, - I'm not kidding - "occurred" today at the DOJ that coincided with the political firestorm engulfing Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' Department of Justice. The incident was reported as an electrical fire on the DOJ Website, escaped national mediaplay, and resulted in the closure of the Patrick Henry Building on 601 D Street, NW.. Continuity of Operations Procedures (COOP)were enacted, no regular Justice Department Workers were to be present.

I. Lewis Libby and his wife - Mrs. Mr. Scooter's wife - came home after a VERY bad day yesterday and found that their TV was stolen along with audio components and a state of the art Smart House Remote.  Police reported this kind of thing often happens while homeowners attend family funerals. Ironically, a small platoon of neighbors not on  TV assembled and quickly found some of the equipment nearby.

Fresh from the ordeal from his own fingerprinting and mugshots, Libby personally arrived curbside to gather his belongings but was turned back. He expressed frustration after being being told that the matter is part of an ongoing criminal investigation. "Look, I only want to secure my stuff", Mr. Libby was heard to say before he got into the back of a White SUV and was driven off.

Abramoff is at the The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Cumberland MD, located 130 miles northwest of Washington, DC. It should make for a nice day trip given that Mr. Abramoff can expect more visits from the FBI and Congressional  investigators in the weeks and months to come... Follow troughout the day...

In my view, there is no crowd like this Administration that is more deserving of being shot in the pubic square. Nonetheless indiscriminate fire without regard to collateral casualties is more of the same.

There is a group Pastors for Change  and nary a blip on the radar screen.  Drawing from 47 congregations of various Christian denominations their caravans are rolling right into Corkers backyard Sunday Night and Monday Morning with @ 800 volunteers scheduled to phone bank from  the local 423, 931, 865 and 615 area codes over the next two days plus election day activity. Should work well for Corker and the Republicans?? Not so fast...

As of 7:29 PM EDT CNN reported that Alberto Fernandez, State Department Director of Public Diplomacy, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs said that the United States actions in Iraq had been at times "stupid" and " arrogant" in an interview on al Jezeera . Mr. Fernandez also said the U.S. was prepared to deal with ANY groups within Iraq other than al Qaeda. The interview had been reported overnight on CNN's website, and the BBC.

 The al Jezeera interview  juxtapositioned Mr. Fernandez with a purported spokesmen for the outlawed yet resurgent Ba'ath Party in Iraq. Yes, the Ba'ath Party of Saddam Hussein fame. Such a commentary must be viewed in the context of what is a Civil War in Iraq and a veritable "Tet offensive" engulfing the country. It should also be understood in terms of Mr. Fernandez career path in Defense Intelligence, his position inside the State Department, and the patronage he enjoys in the graces of Vice - President Dick Cheney....
